About Una/Contact

I write and draw in a shed at the bottom of my garden in Leeds. I’m currently writing a prose novel about a family being haunted by an ancient spirit. I also freelance as a creative project manager, writer and illustrator. I’ve worked as a university lecturer, as an adult educator and I’ve delivered lots of community arts projects. I have a Ph.D (Loughborough) an MFA (Master of Fine Art, University of Leeds) and a BA Hons (Class 1, Leeds Arts University). I did my post-doctoral study at Wolfson College, Oxford.

Highlights from my CV include being a visiting scholar at the Oxford Centre for Life Writing, Wolfson College, Oxford. I’ve given talks and workshops at TORCH Humanities, Oxford, University of Oslo, Queens University Belfast, San Francisco State University, Lucca Comics and Games, Turin Book Festival, Durham Book Festival, Norwich Writers Centre, London Literature Festival, WOW Festival London, ELCAF, LICAF, Thought Bubble and Angouleme. My artwork has been exhibited in the UK, Spain, Austria, Italy, France, Singapore and the US. My first graphic novel Becoming Unbecoming is widely translated and taught in schools, colleges and universities around the world. I collaborated on a theatrical adaption of B/U, Dedicated To All The Others, with a theatre group in Brazil. I’ve appeared on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour (twice), and BBC Radio 3 Free Thinking. My work has been featured in the New York Times, Newsweek, Times Literary Supplement, El Pais. In 2019, Becoming Unbecoming was awarded a Prix Artémisia du Combat Féministe.
